Fasori Kicsinyek Kindergarten

Fasori Kicsinyek Kindergarten

Fasori Kicsinyek Óvodája is a kindergarten based in Budapest currently composed of 4 mixed groups of children of the ages from 3 to 7. Our kindergarten education program is based on German and English language education and the preservation of Hungarian folk traditions. The protection of Hungarian folk traditions, including folk customs and folk culture ensures the smooth transition of the children from nursery life to primary education, built on the children’s natural everyday activities. The basic objectives of our team are: the formation of a healthy lifestyle, emotional education, intellectual development and education that meet the children's physical and spiritual needs.

The kindergarten is actively involved in and organizes a number of extracurricular outdoor activities for children such as:

  • Hungarian folk dance: The program aims at raising the children’s awareness of Hungarian folk games and folk songs. The understanding of dance and music in an important vehicle for the development of rhythm and co-ordination skills. The workshops are conducted once a week for beginners and for an advanced special group. The workshops help the children:
    • feel closer to Hungarian folk traditions by playing games;
    • learn about the basic motifs of Hungarian folk dance and folk music using the magic of rhythm;
    • learn the rules of belonging to \ community;
    • learn about empathy and social behaviour.
  • Voluntary chess classes: Nowadays it is accepted as a fact that chess skills contribute to the improvement of personal development, and thus playing chess is one of the most effective pedagogical tools. In this regard the kindergarten organizes chess classes for children every week in order to:
    • develop analytical, synthetic and decision-making skills, which they can transfer to real life;
    • learn to engage in deep and thorough chess research which will help them build their confidence in their ability to do academic research;
    • help children gain insights into the nature of competition which will help them in any competitive endeavour;
    • call upon higher-order thinking skills, analyse actions and consequences, and visualize future possibilities.
  • Motion music method: it is a method developed by the Soros Foundation and it is based on motion to music. It has proven to be an effective method in early child physical education and care.

Activities and experience

The main goal of out kindergarten is to help foster motivation for development in order for the children to be actively involved and to integrate easily into society. In order to achieve our goal, we are actively involved in cooperation and communication activities with parents and we have experience with organising a number of joint activities in order to involve them in their children’s every-day lives.

Within the current project our role will be to ensure testing and validation of the GSS toolkit at national level in Hungary and also to contribute to the process of disseminating the project results among our fellow kindergartens.
